Guys before I got the know how I had started to re-build my 283. I had it bored and honed to.040.
Had a 3 angle valve job. Rods resized, new pistons power forged and a new cam for the street. The air gap manifold and a holly 670cfm carburator. Will this set up work well on my 68 camaro. Can I use a 700 r4 as my tranny. I have one laying around in my garage. How many horses can I be making at the end. I am not looking for a street or strip killer. At least not yet. I have planns to build a 350 w/ a 400ci block. I plann to use it as my daily driver till I can get another engine on the road. What do you think?

Duntov cam! That would make it run pretty well. What compression are you going to end up with?

Ideally a 10:1 ratio.

Drop a Crane 266/210 in her if you want to go hy. Or the old 097 Little Duntov is a dandy in the little motor for a solid but you will need the right gears to help the 700 outta the hole.

The 700 will work but has a pretty big gearing drop between 1-2 that might be pretty noticeable with a 283. I think a better choice would be a 200 4R or a T350.

Duntov, some rear gear and a 4-speed will realy make for a fun ride. That's the way to do a 283 IMHO. High winding screamer!

Had to put the old puppy up in here. It is almost ready to go. I am planning to have it on the road by the 4th of July. http://www.ofoto.com/PhotoView.jsp?c...1085889119243.
