I have a 1969 Nova and I'm taking the motor, tranny and rear end out of it and swaping it hopefull into a 1970-1973 camaro. My question is that I have a 12 bolt that was in my nova and I wanted to know if it will be a direct bolt on into those year camaros or is there a special kit i need to purchase?

Thanks

No, it will not be a direct bolt in. The 70 and up Camaros are wider (1" per side I think), and the spring perches were in different locations. Please for the love of God do not butcher that original 12 bolt! Sell it to someone and then either buy a 8.5" 10 bolt or a 9" for the car. Again, the rear that you have is worth some real money-there are lots of people who would kill to have it. Don't destroy it!

That rear end will bolt directly into a 67-69 Camaro, a 68-79 Nova, and even a late 60's Mustang. The 70-81 Camaros have a wider rear and all of them are 8.5" rears. If you've ever taken a 12-bolt apart and compared it to a 10-bolt, you'll see why most guys just go with the 8.5" rear. I had the 12 bolt out of a SS Chevelle and discovered that the 30-spline 12-bolt axles were 14% smaller than my 28-spline Granada axles.

The '67-'69 Camaro and '68-'74 Nova rear ends are 60 inches wide total and the spring mounts are about 42 1/2 inches apart from center to center. The '70 and later Camaro rear ends are 61 inches wide total and the spring mounts are about 45 1/4 inches apart from center to center. The '70 Camaros had 8.2 10 bolts and the Z-28 and SS had the 12 bolt. In '71 all Camaros got the 8.5 10 bolt up to '81. The '68-'72 Chevelle 12 bolt is the same 61 inches wide as the second gen Camaro, but they were coil spring cars with 4 link suspension. The '70 Z-28 or SS 12 bolt is the only bolt in for the car you are wanting to build. The Nova rear end you have will bolt into a '67-'69 Camaro, as long as the leaf springs are the same.
