I am doing my mockup assembly now and was fully expecting to have some clearance issues with #1,2,5 & 6 as many of you have indicated is typical with SB 400 and 5.7 rod combos. #1 cleared OK but I am not sure how much clearance I have yet but will verify the exact amount soon. My problem starts with #2 rod contacting the #1 intake lobe close to the peak of the lobe, is this correct. I don't think it have to do with cam/crank phasing as I lined up the dot on the crank gear at 12:00 and the dot on the cam gear at 6:00. Since I am only checking for adequate clearance I didn't think I needed to worry about degreeing the can in quite yet. This si a standard base circle cam as well......might I need to consider a small base circle cam instead?? Will a small base circle provide that much more clearance over a standard base circle?
The rods are Scat 4340 cap screw rods, it looks like I will need to grind .125 x 45* chamfer on the top corner to clear the cam. Does this sound right to you guys?
