A few weeks ago I pulled my intake because off my plugs getting fouled. It was warped badly, mostly on the passenger side which is also the side that had the blackest runners(head runners). The driver side head had relatively clean ports but all the valves had the same amount of gunk, and im talkin heavy gunk. Should I pull the heads to clean the valves and chambers or is there another way? is that gunk on the valves greatly effecting horsepower? Theres other concerns but i wont bore you with the details, i just want clean valves.

Thats interesting, I would have never thought reversion to be the problem but I guess it makes sense. My headers dont match worth a shiat, and plus I had to hammer them up to fit. I still think I have other issues, being that all the valves are gunked equally yet not all the intake runners tells me I probably need valve seals. At first I thought the black was oil, possibly from my pcv system sucking oil, but its mostly on the driver side(like %90). Its also not wet or oily its more sooty but I didnt understand how that dry sooty exhaust look could appear in my intake ports. Looks like new headers and a fresh seals are in order.

Are you running a high volume oil pump? Maybe you are pumping a bunch of oil up into the valve covers and sucking it past the valve seals . . . as I recall this motor hasn't been together long enough for the valve seals to be toasted already . . . doesn't that take a 100 thou or so?

I had a hv/hp oil pump in it up to about 4 months ago, I took it out and put in a stock pump. That put a stop to chewed up distributor gears, and my pressure went from 75-80 warm to 60-65psi. That didnt fix the fouling plugs problem. Im using ACdelco plugs, FR3LS I think. I know my jetting, powervalve,timing, and plug heat is right on the money so its something else. My engine has no more than 10000 miles, but I had the heads apart once and reused the seals so its possible they are leaking.

All I know is that my valves look like crap, looks like someone stuck a big piece of black bubble gum on each valve. I think Im gonna pull the heads and start from scratch on the top end, and get new headers.
