hi i've got a 1967 camaro with 396 and when i'm driving it at mid rpm range(3000) i get popping noise from the exhaust. at idle i have no problems, i can hit the gas no popping. but as soon as i put a load on it driving, its there.also loss of power. it has magnum comp cam in it part #cca-11-208-3 woundering if the the stock springs, if used can't take that kind of lift? i'm new to this game of trying to trouble shoot this stuff. any info would help.

Could be detonation, that would be a bad thing. How much timing are you running? What kind of compression? What kind of gas? You could try putting some race fuel in the tank and seeif the noise/popping goes away. Try backing off the timing a little and see what happens. What kind of ignition are you running? Take a look at the plugs and see if they look good (little grey specs could indicate detonation). This is something you would want to get figured out ASAP, it could be causing damage.

Could also be a valve or two adjusted too tight. Is it hyd. or solid cam? Did this problem just start or has it been this way for a while?
