Hi All, purchased a 68 with a 350 ZZ4 crate motor. Previous owner stated the motor was 1 year old...motor runs out real strong and looks brand new. Just wanted to do a little homework and see if I can verify the build date. Is there a serial number somewhere on the motor I can decode?? If so what Info can I get from the number??

well, it should say "ZZ4" on the pad on the front of the block by the timing cover.
beyond that, i couldn't tell you how to find build dates and what not.

you don't plan sincerity.
you have to make it up on the spot.

wanna hear about 20 years ago when i was too smart to know any better?

If the ZZ4 is marked like the ZZ3 then the stamp pad should have the assy month/day and the block should have the cast year. Here's an interesting one for you. I was reading super chevy - Jan 2005 and they indicate the ZZ3 didn't come out until 1993. I bought a new ZZ3 back in the 90s but didn't remember exactly when so I just went down to look at it. On the stamp pad it has 0409ZZ3(April 9 ZZ3) on the back of the block it has C092 (March 09, 1992). That would indicate the ZZ3s came out it 92 verses 93 like the article states. Anyone out there remember when the ZZ3 cam out?
