im putting together a 350. and putting it in my 69 camaro. im looking into dist. the chevy hei looks good but the book says you need to beat on the firewall to get it in. does chevy make a eletronic dist that fits or does anyone recommend anything better, ive been using mallory for a couple of years and im happy with it, but im always looking for improvements, (like everyone else.)

What book says you have to beat in the firewall??? I have an HEI in my 69 Z/RS and although it's close to the FW it fits fine. Sometimes when restos are done the frame is put back in the car too far back (not aligning the frame holes with the body), or if the car gets hit at the front, the frame gets pushed back a little. If your car hasn't been hit or taken apart and put back together improperly, the HEI should fit. Check mine out in the link.

Dave can convert your existing points distributor into an hei unit. It will look stock, use the same cap and rotor, only it will have an hei module installed.

Dave knows his stuff! Plus he will curve the distributor for your engine.

I don't know why so many people have trouble putting HEIs in 69 Camaros.I have a Mallory 9000 with a huge top on it and I have plenty of room to the firewall, I would say about 3/4 of an inch. I have a big block, are small blocks tighter to the firewall?

It all seems to be a matter of what engine, frame mounts you have. If your HEI fits easily, chances are your headers will hit the steering box and you may have trouble with an 8" balancer. My situation was no problem with headers, but I HAD to dent my firewall some for my HEI.
