Just wanting to know if anyone else out there is running Hooker Competition headers with Vortec heads. Mine don't work as well as they did on my Iron Eagle heads. I can't get the number 6 plug or wire off without pulling the whole header. Seems pretty poor to me. Anyone have the same problem? Also, can anyone recommend a better long tube header that is not overly expensive? Thanks.

I don't run Vortecs or Hooker headers, but my friend ran the Hookers on his 327 with Iron Eagles and had the same problem.

We changed the heads and went with ProTopline straight plug heads and had the same problem with #3 and #5 not clearing the Hookers. So he dumped the Hookers and went with the Hedman Elites and plug clearance is much better, but its still a little tight for cylinders 5 and 6.

I run the Hedmans on my engine with angle plug TFS 23* heads and they fit great.

My point is that the Hedman elites seem to work really well with angle plug heads and OK with straight plug heads. Hookers seem to be a PITA regardless of what head you are running.

Just my personal experience.

I am running Hookers on my car with Dart Iron Eagle straight plug heads and I am having the same problem! #6 & #3 are impossible to get a plug socket on! I dread the day I have to do a tune up!! If the plugs are real tough to break loose I think I will have to drop the header.

I am running vortecs on my '78 chevy truck with a set of cheap flowtech full length headers...excellent plug and wire clearance and fit the chassis great. I know this isn't the same header application but may help somewhat.
