I know this is a broad subject, but when I tried to start my car for the first time today, I got 2 loud pops It was trying to start then all it did was crank and flood out. I am not very good with electrical problems but will be soon LOL!! where should I start to find the problem.

sounds like a timing problem. might be a 180 out on your distribitor. you need to find top dead center on the comprestion strok on the #1 cylinder and then see if the rotory finger is pointing to the #1 spark plug wire on the cap if not pull the distribitor out and rotat it untill it does and recheck your firen order. list what engine you got and what mods you have. that will help us help you getting it running.

It is a 400 sb I just rebuilt. I changed the ignition to an HEI. I have and RPM AirGap intake and a edlebrock 600 cfm carb. I wired the old coil wire together with the resistor wire to the + batt on the distibutor. It does get spark but It may not be enought? I moved the distributor and tried TDC then 180 from that point no change.I did not hook up the electric choke, I found posts here that I would not need it? I may go ahead and hook it up just to eliminate posibilities. what is the color wire to hook the choke to on the wiper motor, origional wiring. thanks everybody for your help.

If you don't have one, get a multi-meter ... Try Sears, Auto-Stores, Hardware stores... they are relatively inexpensive ... HEI requires full 12 volts ... Old points resistor wire should not be used ... I have an edelbock 1406 on my 55 .. elec choke .. works great ... needs 12 volts on keyed circuit ... You can determine/verify power with the multimeter ... Once that is done, you may need to check your fuel pressure ... You will encounter flooding problems if pressure is too high ... about 6 psi should be good ... Did you install a performance fuel pump ... you may need a regulator if you did ...
