Are there any tell-tale signs to determine if a car was originally a big block or small block. BTW, it's a '68 SS.(supposed to be) Thanks guys.

Only obvious ones are the BB heater core (easy change).

Car must have a 12 bolt reat axle.
Car must have either a Muncie transmission, or a TH400 transmission.
Big block manual transmission cross member will have an oval hole where the trans bolts are with one corner chamfered at a 45 degree angle. Small block ones have all corners rounded.
If it has an underhood light then the light would be on the passenger side of the engine, small block will have it on the drivers side.
Tachs (if it has one) have different redlines for a small block and big block, but that isn't the most reliable method of determining what engine it had.

'68's are tough. Everything Mark said, but since there's no indication on the trim plate, and anything can be replaced, you gotta hope for a #'s matching block, and start checking date codes on castings.

If it's original paint, the back panel around the tail lights will be blacked out on a BB car. The front spring wire diameter is also larger on a BB car, but I'm not sure on the actual diameter. David Posi probably knows. I think the front suspenion cross link on BB cars was also larger diameter. David Posi probably knows.

p.s. Go to www.camaros.org for a ton of research info you could use to help verify the car.
