I sent my 4053DZ carb. out to be rebuilt/restored. The guy called back and told me the bores on the baseplate were too small and this was not the correct baseplate. I bought the carb. used so maybe it is true. In either case, what is the correct bore size? Are the bases more or less universal, such that one from a 3310 with the correct bore size is identical to that of the 4053?

I can tell you the bore is the same. The baseplate MAY be the same but it would be wise to consult the Holley numerical parts listing on the Holley web site. It lists all the part numbers for both carbs. I do know some carb parts are available while some are not. For example the 4053 secondary meetering plates with power valve provision are not available as a service part but most other parts are available for these carbs. You need Adobe Acrobat to read the part number lists.

Give Graig Woodruff at Woodruff Carburetors a call. He will likely have what you need.
