the driver side gasket on my intake manifold seems like it gets soaked with a little bit of oil every time i drive the car. thought maybe it was the valve cover gasket, didn't look like it was leaking when i looked at it, changed it anyway though. drove it again, put my finger on the gasket, and its a little slimy again. bad intake gasket? would oil get sucked up there and soak the gasket? car isn't running any different. this only started about a week ago. if it is the gasket, i'll take any suggestions on an intake set and how to install it. its an edelbrock performer intake on a 350.

Did you make sure your bolts are torqued down right on the intake. If so did you use silcone around seal that goes around the water jackets part of the head. Also use some gasket ashhesive to hold it down if you havent tried that already. Felpro makes great gaskets.

everything was torqued down and installed right, the gasket has been on there for about 5 years. no problems until now.

well i'm pretty sure its the intake gasket, so i think i'll go ahead and change it. it's been a long time, but i think i used fel pro 1256 gaskets when it was put together. it was actually put together by a mechanic i knew really well, watched most of it. i believe he used rtv on the front and back of the block, looks like thats the best way from the archives too. only other problem is that i don't own a torque wrench, can the bolts be torqued pretty well by feel of the hand?

be safe and borrow, buy or steal a torquewrench.

but i must admit, i did it by hand also.
but its kind of dangerous, if u torque too hard, u will ruin the threads

69nj;
are you sure that the baseplate of your carb isn't dripping gas down onto the intake gasket?
this happened to me and it looked just like you describe!might save you pulling the manifold just to let it run til good and warm then shut off and cool down while watching carefully at the screws that go into the shaft that holds the butterflies.
good luck!
Eric
