I have a 73 camaro and 79 z28. The 79 z28 has no engine in it but i am going to put the 73's engine in it. Anyway the engine is a 350 and for some reason recently it has been hesitating and backfiring real bad when i step on the gas and no one I know has been able to figure it out.

P.S. it is not the timing or choke.

Has the ditributor been pulled lately? It sounds like it's off by a tooth, or timing chain jumped.

How about, have you tuned it up recently and accidentally swapped two spark plug wires. Just a thought.

Watch your timing mark with a timing light...does it move around a lot? If so, the timing chain is shot...and if thats the case, better get it fixed before it lets go and valves start touching pistons.
