Dear Motor Guru's
I have a problem with oil blowing out the vent tube on the right side valve cover. Pressure seem to be building up in the crankcase and PCV cannot pull it out fast enough at higher rpm. It will actually push the filter in the air cleaner out and blow oil everywhere. What can I do? More information:
-PCV Valve is functioning
-The valve covers are stock with the oil baffles
-The compression
1=195psi
2=205psi
3=180psi
4=180psi
5=180psi
6=180psi
7=120psi (122psi w/oil)
8=180psi
The car runs well. The engine is a 1970 300hp 350ci with the small Crane PowerMax cam (260/272). There is no smoke from the exhaust. The engine hasn't ever been rebuilt that I know of. The car sat for 3 years before the former owner would sell it to me. I know I have a valve problem on cylinder 7, and it will be addressed soon. Is there something that can be done temporarly, or is my engine compartment going to look like a Pollack painting until I go through the motor?

Regards

Sounds like you broke a ring. You don't really want the pcv sucking oil back into the engine...that can make it ping like crazy, fouls plugs, and makes a general mess of things. You might try disabling the pcv temporarily until you can get it fixed.

I agree with Travis sounds like broken compression rings on #7.With a good oil ring it wont smoke but compression will leak by.

Thank you so much for the responses!

I guess I need to make some big decisions.
A) Get a GMPP crate engine.
B) Rebuild this engine if the block isn't shot.
Is it likely the block is unusable?

It is hard to say whether the block is ruined. Most likely not...especially if it has never been rebuilt before. If it is indeed a broke ring, the cylinder wall will probably be scratched, but should clean up with an overbore.
