Question

I have a '94 with 3.4 V6, 5 speed trans with 150K miles. The dealer told me that the crankshaft had too much play and when driven a bit hard the crankshaft sensor mulfunctions and causes the engine to idle high (2000 rpm). They told me to replace or rebuild the engine.

I would like to swap in an LT1 if I have to pull the motor. Has anyone done a swap like this? What do I need besides a new PCM and wiring harness? Does the 5 speed transmission bolt right in the back of the LT1? How much money do I need to budget for this? I am looking into a complete used LT1 hopefully with all the accessories with it.

You'll need the tranny as your 5 speed won't bolt up. Also all the wiring and computers, different exhaust and drive shaft as well. A user running LT and tranny with all the wiring and computer will run you in the $3,500 - $5,000 range. Depending on your states laws you may never get the car smogged or licensed once you've done the transplant. Check out www.gmsports.com they have LT's in the $2000 range without transmissions.
