I picked up a used two piece cover and ordered the hardware kit. It came with what looks like a cam button lock plate. I say 'looks like' becasue there is no hole for the cam gear dowel, only for the three gear bolts. Seems cheesey ( or I'm mistaken ). I've seen others that had all the holes. Am I expected to drill it out?

You should not have to modify the plate at all.

When you install the button into the timing gear, including the adjustment shims, you shouldnt have any problems with the dowel itself or the hole and the lock plate. You may have to use longer cam bolts (very small difference), but they should be supplied in the installation kit.

With no bendable tabs to lock the bolt heads, just remember to use red locktite or purchase the ARP cam bolts that are drilled for lock/safteywire.

The cam dowel protrudes a bit beyond the gear surface ( Cloyes dual roller ) so won't the plate ride on top of it and be cocked? I've seen other plates that had the 3 bolt holes plus the dowel hole. What am I misunderstanding ( very possible ).

If thats the case, then yes......either drill a hole or file the dowel down enough that it no longer interfears.

I know in the kits from Comp and from the originator of the cover, that they use the 'undriled' plate. I would like to find a plate with the dowel hole in it for future use.
