Question

I am attempting to pull a big block engine and I would like to know exactly where to hook the chains (specifically what bolt holes) to the engine. I have heard stories of using the wrong bolt holes on the and breaking off corners of the block or head.

I usually use exhaust manifold bolt holes somewhere in the middle of each head. Use grade 8 or better bolts, and make sure the threads are well engaged into the head. Use a good heavy duty chain as well. It's hard to say precisely which ones to use - you need to find a good balance point. I usually pull the engine and trans as a unit.

Last saturday I and a friend pulled the engine and trans out of my camaro and It came out very easily. We hooked up the chains at all four corners and it came right out eninge/trans as one unit. we used the bolt holes at the front of the head and on the last exhaust bolt on the head. JUst make sure to come out slowly and and have enough people watching to make sure it doesn't hit anything. good luck and have fun. I know I did.
