69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28

Newbie Here with a 69 RS/Z28 DZ302 & 68 RS Pro Touring LT-1 . I am trying to find a vacuum advance control pod stamped B28, I have read several threads on this from years past but nothing newer than 2013, anyhow my question is did they change the stamp on the canister from B28 to B1 ? A previous thread referenced various part numbers.
NAPA/Echlin VC-1810 which has been discontinued
GM 88924985
AC Delco D1312C
Autozone DV-1810
Borg Warner V329 Which Oreilly's doesn't show as a valid part number, they have a V280 Stamped B1 that cross references with the Autozone DV-1810
I found one at Rock Auto, Airtex 4V1053 which I ordered today but am not certain it will be stamped B28 or B-1. Any assistance would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Thank you Rick, just ordered one from Autozone it will be here tomorrow, if the one I ordered from Rock Auto is correct i'll have a spare. I don't think the one Oreilly's has V280 stamped B1 is correct the Borg Warner # everyone else referenced is V329.

I just looked up my notes on the car and yes the DV1810 was a B28. Hope it works for you.

Re: 69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28

Had my Sister pick me up one last year since she lives in Naples FL during the winter cause no one in Canada sells them. From Autozone below. It gave me too much advance at idle so I made a limiter plate.

My orig 201 15 from my 70 Z28 only gave me 2* at idle with my roller cam and that's why I needed the B28 can, so my idle and performance would be better.

Below: 3/32" will give you 10* more timing at idle without the black bushing in the rod. Note, the black bush isn't used here cause my orig was worn, so I tried insulation from RG 62A coax cable, but it's too soft and the bush ended up with a wear mark from the rod hitting the limiter plate thus changing the vacuum advance number I was trying to achieve. To achieve your desired vacuum advance, you need to file off small increments of the limiter or else you'll be cutting a new piece of aluminum like I had to.

Re: 69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28

I place a penny between the arm and the plate and hit it with the welder, reduce by 1/3 if the travel for 10 degrees of advance, remove the penny

Re: 69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28

Old thread I know. Anyone know where to buy a b28 vac advance cannister. No longer available at Autozone.

RockAuto shows an alternate number as a 4V1053, but the specs are not listed. Need a cannister that will fully engage at 8 to 10 inches of vac.

I know Crane makes an adjustable, but I think it is only adjustable for the total amount of advance, not for how many inches of vac.

Any help appreciated.

Lynn

Re: 69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28

If you want a complete set of instructions, with pictures, absolutely free, no strings, no ads, just send me an email, ask for them, and I will send them to you. gmvacuumadvancemod[email protected]

Two different types of pin stops are shown, home made, and fitting a Crane 99619-1 adjustable degree stop plate on the advance THE RIGHT WAY, so it works correctly.

The B28 advance is correct for the DZ engine. GM used this advance part number for distributor 1111480, 1116201, which is the B28, and the generic 1808, and they are also used on MSD billit trigger distributors as well.

Re: 69 DZ302 Vacuum Advance B28

Package sent, ask questions if you have 'em, please.

I just wanted to clarify that in the instructions, to fit the Crane scroll stop, it is recommended to do a small cut away that is covered by the cap when it is on the distributor. This allows easier, from the outside manipulation of the hold down screw for the plate, and moving the plate easier, to change the degrees used.

I DO NOT recommend adding that cut away for a historically correct, numbers matching distributor. When the scroll plate is mounted to the vacuum advance body as outlined, it will work just fine WITHOUT the body cut, just harder to change the setting.
