Small Block ID

I recently picked up a 350 small block Chevy motor and I wanted to identify it to see if it`s worth a rebuild. The code on the front plate is 251512813 K12 17 CMJ. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome aboard Lonney!
Easy Google search can help you but believe by my info if its a 350 motor it was a designated 1974 police car engine but if a 305 cu.in. used in 1980 Camaro's.

Re: Small Block ID

To expand on Chicks response. CMJ decodes to 1974 350 police motor or 1980 305 for camaro. The casting # will tell the rest of the story. If it is the 350 then yes it is worth the rebuild if everything looks good internally. I haven't heard too many people that think a 305 is worth rebuilding. A great website for decoding chevy motors is How to decode Chevy Engine Codes
