when adjusting a carburetor do you want the highest vacuum reading you can get
I always just used a tach before but it is a PITA with the hei distributor, so I now use a vacuum gauge

Re: carb adjustment ?

Yes. A vacuum gauge is more accurate. If you have a Holley, just make sure you have the correct power valve. 1/2 of your highest vacuum reading at idle is the power valve size. Go to the lowest if your on an even # where there is no Holley PV.

I.E. 13"/2=6.5 so get a #65 PV. 8"/2=4 so get a #35 PV.

my gauge shows 16.6 " of vacuum, so I should have #82 power valve?
