Camshaft and lifter kit

Hi I am rebuilding a 327/275 hp Camaro 67 RS and would like to know what camshaft and lifter kit would work best - trying to stay close to original but a small upgrade would be nice.....any help would be appreciated.

Re: Camshaft and lifter kit

Hi, welcome aboard.

I am running the Crane 272H10 in my 327/275. Its a good all around street-driving cam. Not a radical sound.

Before that I ran a 204/214 "performer cam" that was also a good and very common all around cam but the longer duration 272H10 had no notable drawback.

Search through old threads for several other notable options.
There's not as much talk about 327's as there used to be in this forum.

Re: Camshaft and lifter kit

That 327 does not have much in the line of torque so you need to add some. you did not mention trans or rear gear and its the whole package that has to work in unison. that 272 Crane is on a 110 106 it has 4 degrees advance ground in it. Look at an Isky 270 not the 270 Mega . the 270 its [email protected] a 108 lobe center it will give you more zap but a little rougher idle and Crane's 274 ho 6 that one is 218 @50 on a 106 it will waken that 327 real nice but a rougher idle it does have plenty of snap though. I should also say that the tuning is capitol with any mod, ignition advance curve carb jetting etc. you just don't throw in a cam and call it a day. The cam break in is very important with a flat tappet cam. Clean all parts well use only genuine G/M lifters or Johnson smear everything with Isky REV LUBE and Valvoline VR1 racing oil Silver Bottle for street use and plenty of zddp follow procedure . Quick start set dist bring to 2000 rpm for ten minutes then vary between 2000 and 3000 for another 15 minutes 25 mins total. Change oil and filter napa golds are good they are wix filters. Refill withVR1 and your good. hope this helps. Alex

I'm thinking something like a Comp 268 cam ? (maybe a custom retro-roller if the $$$ is there)
