Small block chevy head gaskets

I am building a mild 350 with steel heads. Maybe 350 horse. Has anyone had any experience with Felpro PermaTorqueSD 501 gaskets? Good , bad, or any info would be appreciated. I have used the old blue felpro's for years, just wondering if these at as good or better. Thanks Keith

Re: Small block chevy head gaskets

Fel-Pro is as good as it gets for the street (you don't need multiple layer steel gaskets unless boosted or have race gas compression ratios).

Two things to specifying a gasket and those are compressed thicknes to set your quench and bore diameter (can not enter the bore but excess size decreases compression ratio).

Thanks Dave. I trust FELPRO, just never seen these black gaskets before. I have always used the pail blue ones. I ran out of the blue ones. The car owner brought these to me. I was just wondering if they are safe. Thanks.

Update. ...

I installed the heads on the engine. The heads are 69 double humps with the bolt holes. Had the heads worked ,surfaced, and checked for cracks. There was nothing wrong with the engine prior to the head swap. It had edelbrock proformer heads on it. The guy wanted a more stock look. I torqued the new ARP bolts in a series of three torques. 25, 45, and then 65. Ran the engine for about 10 minutes. Ran great. Looked under and antifreeze is dripping on the drivers side near the dipstick. Head has to come back off. It will go back to the machine shop to be checked again. First head gasket issue I have ever had.

Thanks. I guess that is what I get for using a head gasket that I am not familiar with. Just moved the car over to an empty bay and walked away. That was 2 weeks ago.
