Re: what heads to use on my 385 stroker

With the information you provided.......I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest 200cc range aluminum heads as a possibly, if you can provide additional intake manifold, carb, camshaft product selections that you might want use or have then we could pinpoint a more accurate suggestion.

Re: what heads to use on my 385 stroker

Well you need to consider your torque converter stall speed with 3.73 rear gears because at 70 mph you will be turning 3,400 RPM. This means a lot of your engine's horsepower even with stock heads is being used to roast your transmission oil. You need a 4.88 rear gear to even lock up your converter at 72.2 mph at 4,500 RPM. I wouldn't consider this a street driven car.

It is all about the combination of parts.

Need more info, like intended use, cam specs, ETC.

Torque monster, 185+cc heads and keep it under 6000

High winding street-strip machine 200+cc, 6800+ rpm.

Aluminum would be preferred

Whats your budget ?

Re: what heads to use on my 385 stroker

Years ago I ran 11.20's at 120 in a 3,400 pound Camaro with a 355 running a set of AFR 210's that I purchased in 2000. My old AFR flow numbers were very close to the advertised flow of your heads. With more cubic inch and less weight it should run quicker than my car. And my car didn't 60 foot very well on the motor. The best it would do was 1.58. But on a 175 shot it was a different story. I was running a solid roller. You didn't give any details on your cam. It's flat tappet but you have more displacement than my car and less weight.

Run it. If it doesn't run quick enough put a solid roller in it.

I've been running solid rollers on the street for 20 years. The 355 that I mentioned was 20 years ago when my car was a daily driver. Drove 3,000 to 5,000 miles a year. Cam was 264/274 @ 0.050" and 0.630" lift with 106lsa. Current cam in my 427 is 274/286 0.704" lift.
