Type of fuel to use?

I am curious what everyone one uses for gas for their cars. There are stations here with ethanol free gas but it’s 87 octane. Is this safe to use or do y’all use 93 with the 10% ethanol in it. Thanks.

Re: Type of fuel to use?

What the car is, and how the engine is built (cam & compression make a big difference here) make a big difference on what gas to use. High compression (11:1) needs 93 octane and in some cases, even a bit more; whereas if you have a 250, straight 6, 87 is all you need.

I would put the ethanol-free gas in it as a last fill-up if you are going to be storing it for any extended period of time (winter).

I will put 93 just worried about the ethanol but not sure if it’s really worth worrying about since it won’t be driven much. Maybe once every 2 weeks or so.

Not sure where to get ethanol free gas around here.... but due to 10.8 compression, I run 91 (93 when I find it and know I'm hitting the strip)

Re: Type of fuel to use?

I mix my on fuel with the compression being 10-9.5-1
2 gallon 0f 93
2 gallon of 100 ll
1 gallon of 110
which gives me close to 100 0ctane
WHY? because 110 is $5.15 per gallon and 110 is $10.00 per gallon

Add Startron or Stabil if you like....but I've had no issues with or without using pump gas with 10-15% ethanol and sitting (even 6-8 months)

I just started using Startron on an old farmers recommendation from his old tractor collection....figured can't hurt. (and doesn't dye stuff red)
