Cool What's the logic on lifter lube

Ok, this may sound stupid, but I gotta ask..................

When adjusting the valves, all the assembly lube is wiped-off the cam when adjusting from #1 firing order to #6, and then back to #1 to install the distributor (the intake is not installed).

The engine will be rotated again when I hook-up the torque converter to the starter plate.

Now doesn't the cam lube need to be there on start-up?

If the lube is "wiped off" during valve adjustment, are the chances of the cam being damaged at start-up a possibility?

I did use GM EOS, and poured it over the holes over the cam in the lifter valley.

Any takers????

im build engines for a living and i would recomend assembly lube but the key to preventing start up damage is priming the oil pump before starting.

Sure turning the engine over a few times wipes off some of the cam lube but that's the reason you use cam lube instead of oil. Cam lube has a cling property that keeps a coating on the parts even after they have been moved during valve adjustment and such.

Mikes right about pre-oiling as well to insure a sucessful first firing and long lasting engine...

Cam-lube is a moly-filled grease so won't drip off the lobes and other places you put it like p/r ends and rocker balls and such! Distributor gear too...

Trade names are "Never-Seize" or "Anti-Seize"...

Isky sells it as their "Rev-Lube". Good stuff.

I wouldn't use any of the runny, "oil type", cam-lubes other that good old EOS in with the oil!! Unless I was going to start her up BEFORE the crap can run off everything!!
