Valve covers-Rockers hitting

I have been chasing rocker noise for awhile now and I think I missed the obvious... The rockers are hitting the valve cover!

I will be switching to tall covers..

My question is why would this happen?
(Car is relativly new to me and loud exhaust was just replaced-May have been there all along!)Car has standard rockers, No rollers.

COuld this be causing any other issues Im seeing ?(White/blue Smoke?)

Without knowing your valve lift or which rocker arm covers you have, you might try doubling up on your valve cover gaskets to gain the needed clearance.

Re: Valve covers-Rockers hitting

Good idea on the double up but check out the extra thick gaskets available. The steel core cork versions work real well but can get pricey in the $30 range.

Re: Valve covers-Rockers hitting

I went from tall Valve covers to regular GM valve covers a couple weeks ago. When i put the new valve covers on the rockers werer hitting the valve covers. When i took the valve cover off i realized the valves next to the baffles on the valve covers were actually scraping the sides of the baffle. Wasnt actually the valves hitting the top of the cover...took a pair of channel locks and squeezed the baffle a bit. Might wanna check that as well...

Re: Valve covers-Rockers hitting

I know mine are hitting the covers. When I pulled the covers, I had 8 lines running across the top of the cover..... I tried doubling up the gasket just now, but it had no effect. When i was listening with a stethoscope on the valve cover, I loosend the covers "T" handles and the sound would change as I did it.

How tall are "Tall" covers? Mine measure about 2.5 " from the side rail to the top...
