Rubber gasket on air cleaner

At a recent cruise night a fellow '69SS owner told me that the rubber gasket that sits atop the air cleaner assembly used on a cowl induction hood was put on incorrectly. He indicated that it came from the manufacturer inside out (so to speak) and needed to be turned out the correct way. He said this was a common mistake many people make when placing this part on. I hope I am describing this accurately. Has anyone heard of this?

Re: Rubber gasket on air cleaner

Yes, that is correct. The part of the gasket that has a lip is what goes down on the air cleaner base. The upper part, towards the hood, should be smooth. I've seen this many many times as well.

Re: Rubber gasket on air cleaner

Correct

Incorrect

I had it wrong for ages.. Thought I had the wrong part until someone kindly told me to turn it inside out!
