Re: Check out this Vortec Head deal

I really think I am going to like this combo.

PDQ;
I heard the Cam in a 327 at the track with large tube headers and flowmaster 40's like I have and all I can say is it sounded so sweet. Everytime he made a pass I kept telling my buddies "That's the sound I want" I was finally able to talk to him and found out it was the cam I picked and he has a 327. He has 1.6 ratio rockers and some port work done on the heads and is running a 750 holley with a low first gear t350 trans and 3:73 gears. It is not the type of combo I would like all the way through, but it sounded so good. You might want to check out the cam @ $55.00 right now you can't go wrong.

I am going 600 edlebrock and 3:42 gears and Hopefully a 200R4 If budget allows, if not a T350. No porting for me.

Thumbs up Re: Check out this Vortec Head deal

Joe,

Thanks for the heads-up, but I bought a cheap PAW 280(264??)/246, 108/108, .500"/.500" with 1.6 ratio rockers solid cam for about $44 for my next 283/292/301 motor.. I'm looking for cheap pistons now??????

I figure it should go at least 8,000 rpm!!

pdq67

PS., gonna build another junk301 for grins is all......

Anyone know of some billit type or polished alum valve covers for Vortecs? Got any pictures?

Re: Check out this Vortec Head deal

Joe,

Here's a pic of my polished vortecs. I paid $80 from one of the vendors at last years Super Chevy Show. Summit and Jegs have them for a little more. Not perfect but pretty decent quality. You can get them ball milled, flamed or plain. Also, check out Billet Specialties. They are more $$ but have more options.

Cool Re: Check out this Vortec Head deal

Joe,

Go back to Sallee and check out the clearance page. You can get plain VC's for $75 and ball milled for $85. I bought some from them, nice Holley pieces.

Re: Check out this Vortec Head deal

Thanks Motorhead !!! I can't decide if i want ball milled with car color in the strips or plain. The intake will be natural finish, maybe black like the rest of the engine and a chrome water pump, alt and polished A/C compressor. What do y'all think???
