Need help with stock fuel pump to AN fittings

I'm looking to attach new fuel line with AN fittings to a stock fuel pump that currently has a 3/8" line so I can plumb a new line from carb to pump with braided hose. The stock pump has a 5/8" female inverted flare fitting, as far as I can tell. Is there an adaptor that will readily fit into the pump to convert it to an AN type? I see a fitting on Summit's site that is a 5/8" male to -6 AN (EAR-991947ERL), but I don't know if the flare angles are compatible since I've encountered 42 degree and 45 degree angles. What would you suggest?

Re: Need help with stock fuel pump to AN fittings

Looked in Russell, but don't see the part I'm talking about for the application.

Has anyone had experience with using either

Earl's 991947ERL;
Summit's SUM-220667; or
Aeroquip's FBM2964

-6 AN Male to 5/ 8-18 in. inverted flare fitting to successfully convert the stock fuel pump 3/8" pipe outlet fitting to -6 AN?

I'd like to reuse the stock pump and I am gathering a parts list.

I seem to recall when I plumbed mine that it was absolutely impossible for some reason... ended up buying a Holley pump to get a pipe thread I could screw an adapter into.

Jim,

While I was searching on this topic I read that thread where you were trying to plumb the line between pump and carb:

https://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37892

I was hoping to avoid the same frustration! From what I think I have found it is possible to adapt the stock outlet to AN -6 with one fitting. On page seven of Earl's online manual they have a fitting for 3/8 inverted flare fittings.

http://www.earls.co.uk/car/3_hose_fi...m_adapters.pdf

I was hoping to find someone that has achieved success with using it before I ordered a whole bunch of fittings only to find out I need something else.

Re: Need help with stock fuel pump to AN fittings

You can definitely do it with one fitting, you just need to verify the thread on the pump. 3/8" fuel line is NOT 3/8" inverted flare, it's probably 5/8" inverted thread. Find the fine thread bolt that fits in the pump and you'll know the inverted thread size. The inverted threads are sized like bolt threads, not pipe threads or tubing size.

Re: Need help with stock fuel pump to AN fittings

I know the threads on the pump fitting are 5/8-18 UNF and the fuel line is 3/8" 45 degree double-flared tube. When I was referring to the inverted flare, I was describing the joining cone on the existing fuel pump fitting that the flared tube seals against.

The 991947ERL should be the correct fitting.

That would be the detail I didn't know when I did mine.
