Edelbrock Performer Question

It's been a while since I've been here. I got real busy with work and family.
Anyways, I'm planning on getting into my carb this winter among other things.
Here's the situation.
The car is a '68 RS Camaro with the original 327(mildly modified), original 2 barrel carb and manifold was removed and 4 barrel manifold and new(er) edelbrock #1405 manual choke carb installed before I bought it.
The problem is that any time I accelerate hard it runs really rich. I can see the gas gage drop after each time. The car is hard to start cold also.
I've bought the calibration kit with the rods, springs etc.,. But before I get into it I thought I'd ask the experts aroung here.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Question

You may want to try moving the accelerator pump rod one hole farther from the carb body to shorten the stroke and thus reduce the volume of gas the accelerator pump produces.

Thanks Dan.
The pump rod was in the middle hole of 3 holes in the lever. I moved it to the outer hole and will drive it today.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Question

I have a Performer carb on a 355 in my pickup. It has always shot black out the back when I get on it. It also takes a while to start if it sets very long. When I built the 355 for my Camaro I went with the 670 Avenger and have had no problems.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Question

Took the 68 for a ride. No more loading up at all. No bogging down when I stomped on it either.
When I got back I changed the plugs. The ones I pulled looked to be lean. The grounds were white. I'm thinking someone tried to overcome a lean condition with more accelerator pump.
