396 L-89 Compression

I'm getting ready to build an L-89 396 engine for my 69 Camaro show car. I only drive this car to local shows and ocassionally get it out on the weekend just for a drive. I'm having trouble deciding on which TRW piston to use. If I use the correct .352 dome L2242F piston, my compression will be 11.0 to 1. Common sense tells me that I will have to run race fuel or maybe blend the fuel so it can support the compression. I believe this will be a lot of trouble and expense just so I can say "Yeah it's got 11 to 1's in it". My question is, do you guys think I should just put the TRW L2240NF .182 dome pistons (10.0 to 1) in so I can run 93 octane pump gas? Anyone been through this before? I would love to hear your pros and cons. Thank you.

Re: 396 L-89 Compression

It really boils down to what kind of camshaft that you plan on running. If you're going to run something with a lot of duration (rough idle), then I'd say go with the 11:1s. If you're going to go with something more mild (fairly smooth idle) then go with the 10:1s. Just depends on what you want to do with the engine and how you want to set it up.
