Talking Cam For my Vortec headed 327.

Found out some more info on the cam from a GM site. A little story behind it! I think PDQ will find this intresting:

Specs: 330 H/P Vortec crate motor cam: Hydraulic 0.435" / 0.460 Dur. @ 0.050" (I/E) : 212 / 222 Lobe Sep 112.5

The cam is a modern dual pattern interpretation of the old '65 to '67 Corvette 327 cam. But with more lift and duration on the exhaust side, it does a better job of clearing exhaust from the combustion chamber. We also decreased duration and lift ever so slightly on the intake side to build more cylinder pressure. The result is a cam that makes great torque and horsepower with the 350 HO's 9.1 to 1 compression ratio.

Smile Re: Cam For my Vortec headed 327.

Joe,

I thank you for the heads up. But that said, I love it when they try to sell cams b/c they are NOT alike at all, imho!!

-151 cam; 222/222, 114/110, .447"/.447" lift.

-962 cam; 224/224, 114/114, .450"/.460" lift

VS

212/222, 112.5/???, .435"/.460" lift. (Like to know it's ICA??)...

What this flat tells us is that we need to run small cams in 9 to 1 CR. motors b/c they flat WORK AND GM even say's so now!!

Again, thanks for the info..

pdq67

PS., I'd like to see what GM is putting out for advertized spec's for it??

(And you notice the wider LCA's/ICA's the old cams have for idle quality. They have carried that over to the new LS- motor's cams..)....

Re: Cam For my Vortec headed 327.

After looking into Cams for 327 with Vortecs this seemed to be the came for me. I liked the numbers with compression and basic street manners. I noticed the articles the rags did with dyno runs that it was hard to improve on the cam with aftermarket ones. They did of course but for the sake of wanting to have performance and MPG I hope I made the right decision. I think I did. Like you said though, old is new again. I also think they took some with this one to make sure they were selling a bang for the buck crate engine. I think it's cheaper for me to copy what the general has done rather then reinvent the wheel.

Re: Cam For my Vortec headed 327.

I think you will be very pleased with that cam. One of the mags did a test on one of the new HO350's, and said that the XE262 cam made 0 difference over the stock HO350 cam...even with more lift, a tighter lsa, and more .050 duration. The XE268 didn't even make significantly more power over the HO 350 cam until like 3500 rpms or so...and this was in a 350.
