Double hump heads,,,1.94's??

Are the double hump heads 1.94's or 2.02's? I used to know,,,but wife and kids have dulled my small block mojo.

Also,,,,,How do you ID an engine that has had the stamped numbers machined off. The guy that I bought the 67 said he had replaced the 350 with a 283 but the tab at the front of the engine has no #'s on it. I am off'ing the motor for one off those 427 small blocks they are coming out with but it would be helpfull to be able to tell the engine buyer exactly what motor it is,, instead of,, "Uh,,,I think it's a 283 dude".

I appreciate your help in getting back into Camaro mode after over 20 years between the 69 and my new 67 project.

Re: Double hump heads,,,1.94's??

Douple humps (186) came in both sizes. 1.94 for SS350 and 2.02 for Z/28. As for the block, the casting number and cast date will tell you more info about the block, please post them. 283 were discontinued after a certain date, so it should be easy to figure out.

Re: Double hump heads,,,1.94's??

I think that those heads can be either,,, getting the casting stamp under the valve covers may help,,

As for the block,,, I suppose the motor is in the car? I was gonna ask to look at the crankshaft flange if it was not . You can check engine casting and date stamps at back of block , Look at the front harmonic balancer, see if its a large thick or small very thin.

Re: Double hump heads,,,1.94's??

The engine is still in the car,,,I m keeping it so the buyer can hear it run,,,The balancer is a thick one (about 1 1/2 "). When you reference crank flange you are talking about th rear whee the flywheel mounts,,right? I think I remember that the shape of that can ID which motor (or atleast which crank it has) it is.

So is it a mystery until the motor is actually yanked?

Thanks guys.

If the heads have screw in studs and guideplates it will have 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves. Look at the back of the block to see if it has a breather tube for ID

Some olde/earlier double-hump head castingss were machined for all three valve sizes.

1.72"/1.94"/2.02" intakes and 1.50"/1.60" exhausts!

Crank flange shape on 302 and 283 are round. I think 327 is round but with a v notch? 350 is round with a large tab on it.. cant miss it. Anybody correct me here?

The 265 and 283 are true round.

The SJ, 302 is round with a notch out of it.

The LJ 302 also is round with a notch, but it is bigger made in spots.

327's have a smaller fan.

And a 350 has a full fan.

400 has a full fan plus an add-on flexplate/flywheel and balancer counterweight.

Question Re: Double hump heads,,,1.94's??

Can you pull a valve cover or both and tell us what the last three numbers are in the long casting number string?? Between the valve springs...
