Re: 1984 z28 305HO to 350 HO swap question.
Sorry for the long post, but this car touched my heart....
I had a 85 T/A carb'd 305 and 700r4 with some stall. Put a 350 w/9:6:1 hypers, stock heads, ran a Comp Computer cam (dont know why, seemed like a good idea at the time), RPM, and stock Q-Jet. I used Edelbrock headers for a 5.7 Iroc (bigger). All emission stuff hooked back up, carb was computer controlled. Car ran best 14.0, spinning the one-legger 1st through 2nd till it hooked. Dont know what the rear was, probably 3.08's. Computer was fine - no check engine light, and a good idle. COuld of used more cam. I'm confident that if I sent the carb in for rework, got posi and some stickes, that car would of ran 12's easy. BTW, I ran 87 octane cause I was poor at the time. Engine was 900 rebuilt, 140 intake, 330 headers. Nice kick-*** package
Only problem was that the car killed transmissions. Killed 2 700's, and the 3rd trans died on the kid that bought it from me. I suspect that the 700r4's dont like being shifted at 6500+ rpms.
