How to Install New Exaust Sytem

How complicated is it to replace the full exaust system in my '67. I'd be replacing it with a stock system. I've got the two long pipes, the muffler and the tailpipes. Looks like the stock system is just clamped together? Any welding required up near the exaust manifolds or just bolted or clamped together?

Factory type are all bolted and clamped. I did an American Thunder system on my 68 and it's all clamped with the threaded end towards the drive shaft (looks better), but would like to have welded it.

Thanks. What do you mean by "threaded end"? Why would you have liked to have welded it?

Welding gives less chance of leaks, but I wasn't sure about mine since its aluminized pipe. As for the threaded end, I was talking about the muffler clamps.

Re: How to Install New Exaust Sytem

with a factory style exhaust, the only likely trouble spot is where the pipes bolt onto the manifold, or more accurately, getting the old ones off. hose it down well, and over several days, with some good penetrating oil. Those nuts rust bad, and the studs rust too, and break easily. work em gently with an impact wrench to knock the rust loose, in and out kinda thing. A torch can help, too. heat em up, then squirt em, the use the wrench, repeat....

There'll be a heat riser valve on the pass side, and you'll need a flat gasket for that plus 2 donut gaskets for the pipes, plus 6 new brass nuts.
