Question MSD BLaster Coil leaking

I noticed today that my MSD blaster coil was leaking oil. It has been laying on its side while I have been trying to get the motor timed. It hasn't been running very good and I suspect this may be the problem. I assume this is not a good thing, but I believe I have seen other cars with coils mounted sideway on their firewall? Is this a bad thing to mount the coils sideways or did I just get a bad coil?

Re: MSD BLaster Coil leaking

Would this foul out the spark, so the engine would run very rough? Also, is the coil shot now? Or is it still usable?

Re: MSD BLaster Coil leaking

67,
No matter how it is mounted, it should not leak. I have seen them mounted in almost every possible direction, right or not, but they still dont leak. However, the coil should be mounted upright according to MSD.

Re: MSD BLaster Coil leaking

Leaking cooling oil,, oil keep it from overheating... Pitch it... Get a new one. Check the tag at the bottom of the new one,,, make sure its from USA.

Please note, some numbers of RED Blaster III's, p/n 8223, were made by Pro-Bobbin, will have a "Made in Mexico" sticker on their bottom. Don't use these coils. About a year ago, Blaster III production went back to where all Blassters used to be made, Andover, Indiana. Andover still makes, and has always made the CHROME Blaster II's, p/n 8200. The good Blasters will have a chrome sticker on their bottoms with "Made in USA" on them.

Re: MSD BLaster Coil leaking

Thanks for the info guys. I really appreciate it. I will contact Summit and see if I can exchange it. This was part # 8200. Was looking at part #8223 until I read zdld17s post (thanks for the heads up).
