86 TPI intake MAF?

Hey, I am stealing (i mean purchasing for $100 from a scrapyard) a TPI intake from an 86 IROC-Z, and placing it on a regular chevy SB 305. I was wondering, would a MAF from another camaro (V6) work on the SB TPI? or does it need to be THAT MAF? Also how hard is it to convert from MAF to speed density?

Re: 86 TPI intake MAF?

Personally I would not convert from MAF to speed density. On SD systems, the ECM program is developed around the efficiency of the motor. If you change efficiency (heads, cam, exhaust), the program will have to be redone (or pay for a high $$ chip).

I doubt a V-6 MAF will work, but there should be plenty that will. It uses an analog MAF meaning it controls an analog voltage signal for the ECM to read. By comparison, some MAFs are frequency based meaning they change the frequency of a square wave for the ECM to read. Any voltage based MAF that is big enough for the motor and will plug in probably will work fine. They aren't cheap though if you buy new, and some autoparts stores won't exchange them.

Re: 86 TPI intake MAF?

So should I just scrounge around for GM MAFs in the scrapyard? and check if the plug fits? Shouldnt cost me anything, i could lie and say it was on the TPI :P
