What is this engine from??????

Hello,
I'm going to rebuild the engine in my camaro but first I need to figure out
what it is from and what it is. I was told when I picked up the car it was a 327 but we all know you can never take the word of somebody selling a car. But I'm having a little trouble deciphering the numbers. Here is what I have so far. The casting number is 3970010 which could be a 327, but could also be a 302 or a 350. On the pad in front of the cylinder head, it has a couple sets of numbers. first it has C71103749 then it has K 08 26 a large space then either a number 1, a capitol i or a lower case L, another space and then YZ . Underneath that it has a faint stamp that says 327 but it is more vague and looks like it may have been added later. I don't understand what the l stands for and I couldn't locate the suffix YZ. Can anyone help? Thanks.

One of the listings I found for that casting number is 327-trucks and industrial. I don't have the suffix list for trucks or industrial nor have I ever seen a YZ (except on a dirtbike). Truck codes you might find, but I wouldn't know where to begin to find industrial codes.

I'm not sure, but I'd guess it's a 350 out of a 1977 full size car.

Re: What is this engine from??????

3970010 in most cases are 350 blocks. I have two in the garage and another one. They were/are all 350 blocks. If I remember right they were used for many years, starting in the early 70's up to about 78 (that's just from memory without looking it up). Some are 2 bolt mains and others are 4 bolt. They are good production blocks to build.

True this block was used for 327's as well. The difference is just the stroke.

Re: What is this engine from??????

It's a 350, made at McKinnon Industries (Canada), originally installed in a 1977 Chevy pickup made at the Oshawa (Ontario) assembly plant.
