just got my new intake in for the BBC...i want to cry

ok i just recently bought a new water pump and holley intake for my BBC 366/427 and just recently i installed the water pump. it looks great. today i went out and cleaned the intake off so no dirt will fall down into the chambers when the old intake was removed. after i removed the old intake i realized the engine was well took care of. the inside of the engine was extremely clean. like it was just rebuilt. I proceded to fitch my new holley aluminum intake. as i started to place it onto the block i immeditly realize something was wronge. there was a gap on each side of the intake. the guy i bought the intake from said it woould fit any bbc including my 366 truck engine. well it does not.

does anybody know of where i can go buy a spacer?
or better yet does anyone know how far it needs to be spaced so i can go make one.
my current mood:

i want to be knock the hell out.

The guy lied manifolds either fit the tall deck truck blocks or the short deck pass blocks but not both. they make spacers but they aren't cheap and can be a pain to keep straight unless you set them up with a way to attach them to the heads with screws. Are you changing the factory tall deck manifold? if you are you must come up with a different dist to use a manifold and spacers.

I've got a set of spacers that have had some port matching work, but should work fine. These are for rectangle port heads, and have never been used. PM me for details. I'd let them go really cheap. On the distributor, MSD makes one with a slip collar that is adjustable for your tall deck application. Jegs has them.

In the long run, you probably would be better off to buy the correct intake and sell the wrong one you just bought. The guy you bought it from probably did that same thing !

Agreed
But I know a guy that was looking for some used spacers if you want pm me a price and I'll see if he is interested. His manifold isnt one that buying a new one would be cost effective. (He's stack injected)

Question Re: just got my new intake in for the BBC...i want to cry

Your motor is a 366/427 tall deck BB? I can't see the water pump bolt and the deck good enough to tell??

Anyway, I thought the spacers were a 1/4" thick and it just didn't look like you needed a 1/4" on each side is all??

And I think you can buy thicker port gaskets if you do some searching around that MAY just fix you right up ? Then by using silicone on each end, you may be good to go..

I'm thinking .060" and .100" or .120" thick AND maybe even thicker jobbers?

Help me out here guys as well as ask over on Team Chevelle's site b/c of all the BB guys over there too.....

Chris,
Just by looking at your pictures, especially the one from the front that show the passenger side head, that engine does NOT look like a tall deck block. What are the casting numbers on the back ?

Re: just got my new intake in for the BBC...i want to cry

the casting numbers are 364779
casting cu years
364779 366T 68-90 4-bolt
t=tall deck

the water pump bolts up just like the original. lined up great to.

the intake fits good its just the two huge gaps on each side. i can shove the intake to one side against either head and all the bolt holes match up.

i'm clueless. anyhelp is welcome

Weiand makes oval port intake spacers (#8206) - Jeg's has them - $140.00.

You have a 366 Truck engine 68-90 year model 4 bolt main.
