427 Harmonic Dampers

Can I use a 454 harmonic damper on a 427 engine . I are having difficulty getting the correct one ( I live in Australia ) & most places can supply a 454 one but not a 427 . are there any differences

Re: 427 Harmonic Dampers

NO, the 454 balancer will NOT work it is an externally balanced motor.. The 427 one you need is internally balanced motor and is a completely different motor. The good thing is you can get the balancer off of any other big block EXCEPT the 454. They should not be that hard to find.

Re: 427 Harmonic Dampers

I have an original GM low mileage balancer that was used with high perf 396's and 427's from 67-69. GM part number 3879623,..8" internally balanced damper.

E-mail if you're interested.

Re: 427 Harmonic Dampers

Should be real easy getting the 427 damper where you are, they are made in your country for the aftermarket suppliers and are marketed in the U.S. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
