Question Re: 327 haeds

Please post back what the casting numbers are for your two heads. The last three numbers like this "-462". And maybe we can tell you what they are valve ize and chamber shape-wise??

327's ran all three valve size heads so this is why I asked b/c the little valve heads won't be all that good on a 350, but the medium valve heads were stock on the old L-48 motor.

And the Z-28 350 motors got the big valve heads so ran very well back then.

Yes, they will work fine. Those are nice heads, are far as double humps go.

Re: 327 haeds

I ran them on a 350 for a long time with no problems. I still have a set with 2.02 & 1.60 valves on my shelf.

Re: 327 haeds

The only thing I can think of that might be a issue would be the seats. They might have already been replaced by now though. Hardened seats for todays fuel would be a smart adition if your putting alot of street miles on it.

OK, -461's come in about three sizes stock!

Small 1.72"/1.50" valves at about 62 cc's.

Medium 1.94"/1.50" valves at about 64 or so. And big 2.02"/1.60" valves generally right at 66 cc's b/c of the factory unshroud plunge-cut around the valves.

I have a set of good -461's and they cc at 66 and 66.+ cc's b/c I measured them to be sure!

Re: 327 haeds

Paul,

I didn't know those came with the small valves. Ya learn something new every day! Hey, you wouldn't happen to have a set of 186's or something with accessory holes sitting in your garage would you?

Talking Re: 327 haeds

Hi ! Just want to add, what has been said and you might have overlooked. There are no accessory holes in these heads ! What does that mean ? On a 69 Camaro, your alternator needs a mounting hole in the passenger side head. I am running the -461 heads but, my engine builder drilled and tapped an accessory hole in the head. Some peoply say that there is not enough material in the head to do so, but mine has worked... so far. Another option is to get a bracket from http://www.alangrovecomponents.com/S.B.Long_Pump.htm
or similar.

69 Camaro -originally a LM1 car. 327, Edelbrock E-streets, hooker, DUI performance distributors, ultradyne cam, stewart, TRW etc. Vintage Air, AGR steering, Corbeau GTSII seats, 700R4 transmission, 12-bolt w/Eaton 4.11:1

I have seen it done also and work. Its just important to get it strait and in the right place. Also be careful or you can go through. ( seen this mess also )

Re: 327 haeds

I have a set of 461 heads I was running on a 355 in my Camaro but the alternator was on the drivers side. Since you can run the heads on either side, why wouldn't there be a place to drill the holes? I am not being a smart aXX here but I am wondering about it. Could a person build the brackets or switch the alternator to the other side? I might have to dig them out and see what the difference really is.
