Deck Height vs. Piston Height

What is the average piston to deck height dimension on a stock 396. I have .027. I am wondering if it has been decked, although the bore is stock.

Smile Re: Deck Height vs. Piston Height

I think GM used an average of .025" for both BB and SB motors b/c a lot of the guys say they both seem to come in about there.

I do know that .020" thick steel shims were used on both sizes stock so I figure that is about right for a decent stock quench of right at .045".

I know my motors have always been right around there crudely measuring them like I do..
