Approximately 67# for bare BB head. Oval and squares are the same weight. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. BB G.M. aluminum, 29# also bare.

70 - 72 loaded unless you're talking Merlins. Those suckers are over 80 lbs apiece!

Like 'pdq' said - not stupid at all unless not asked

But, the real answer... is - there may be a difference in your heads, from 1968 on... They are physically the same (and interchangable) but may have a slight assembly difference.
Not a big thing but, they moved the Temp. Sensor to the LEFT (drivers) Side Head in a threaded hole between the front two exhaust ports on both BB and SB heads in '68.
Both heads should have a drilled & tapped hole, only the right (passenger) side head would have originally had a pipe plug in it. These plugs can be plenty hard to get out if they've been in for many years - so it's easier to just put it on the right/passenger side to begin with and use the open hole one on the left/drivers side to avoid having to deal with getting that dang plug out...

I have actually seen several engines that have had one head drilled/tapped and the other not - never investigated the casting dates or how this happened - don't think the factory put them out this way - but, I've been wrong about that before...

Just my .02 and trying to keep Paul on his toes...

Whatever head weight you come up with....... multiply that number by 8 if you drop it on your foot. Thatll keep you on your toes...
