Who is running an aftermarket oil pan?

Are aftermarket oil pans worth the $?

If so, which one and how much?

The engine will be a 383 for mostly street.

For a performance motor like a 383 my opinion would be you want to run an aftermarket pan. Mine is a Milodan 7qt.

Re: Who is running an aftermarket oil pan?

I have run the Milodon pans on several engines, never had a problem. My current engine has a Kevco pan, it's a very nice pan, cleared the 3.75" stroke with no problem and has oil control in the pan, trap door, baffles, and scraper.

There are plenty of good pans out there, stay away from the cheap chrome stuff and you should be fine. I also wouldn't recommend a cast pan either.

Re: Who is running an aftermarket oil pan?

I run a Moroso 20190 because it has a side drain plug rather than a rear drain plug.

It is 1 inch lower/deeper than stock, has a baffle door, clears Z/28 windage tray, already set-up for strokers on the rails, and has side kickouts making header install a pain in the a$$ if you don't decide to pull the engine.

Whichever brand of pan you pick, use the appropriate oil pump pickup for the pan.

As suggested by Royce, "Put down the chrome and step away!"

Re: Who is running an aftermarket oil pan?

Moroso 20191 here on my 388. It is like the 20190 except it has a built in crank scraper. It was probably the best fitting part I have put on this car Header clearance is fine on mine (nova), although oil filter removal is a little trickier if you try not to make a mess.

Milodon here, #31070. Really nice look, baffles and clears the windage tray.

Re: Who is running an aftermarket oil pan?

I had the Moroso 20191 on my 350. Loved it!!! great pan No fitment issues with; stock starter, full length headers, or oil filter (FM30). It has a windage tray baffles and a crank scraper. It should fit you 383 no problem. " Fits my buddies 400 truck block." I have a Milodon on my 427 now. Not bad but doesn't have all the features of the Moroso, and already had a leak at the pan rail.

Re: Who is running an aftermarket oil pan?

Thanks to all of you for your input, I will probably go with the Moroso 20191.
