New BB - How Much Coolant?
Just installed my rebuilt BB with a 4-core radiator. How much coolant should the whole system hold? I have put about 6 1/2 gallons of antifreeze/water (50/50 mix) into the system. Have completed the cam break-in period of running the motor at 2000 rpms for 30 minutes and ran it about another 15 minutes to find and seal exhaust leaks. The fluid is about 1" below the top of the radiator. Is this about right? Thanks!

Found the answer in my owners manual. Didn't think about that reference.
V8 396 - 23.5 quarts of coolant
add 2 more quarts if AC car

Cool ! You still have an Owner's Manual? One inch below is good. Check it again when cold and add. Do another heat cycle and check again the following day for level. Should be 1 inch below.

Tim, the rad should be marked, on the back of the pass side tank, "full hot" and "full cold" Full hot is 1" or so below the neck. Full cold is 3 or so inches below that. If you overfill, it will puke and make a mess.
