Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

Hello all I just bought a pair of Hooker super comp. 2 1/8" headers and I got the ones with the ceramic coating. My question is I have a 67 Camaro and on the passenger side header there is a dent there that looks like it would be clearanced for the idler arm on the pass. side frame rail. Is this dent normal? There isn't any scratches or anything and you can tell it was done from the factory, but it just looks kinda ugly! Any opinions or experiences with these headers?

Re: Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

I ran out and checked my new Super Comps I just installed last week.I purchased them direct from Jet Hot and YES there is a rather large dent in the #8 tube about where you are describing. I don't see how anything would hit there though. And one more tip if don't know already. When installing motor lay drivers side header in first I found it impossible to fit header in any other way.Ended up pulling motor back out to install header after a couple scape's on coating trying to install just jacking up motor.

It is common for headers to have a "crease" in them for spark plug access. Is that what you have ?

Re: Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

He is talking about on the bottom of the header where it is going back into collector there is a pretty good crease near the idler arm.I can fit my thumb in it but when I turn the steering linkage back and forth there is no clearance issue that I can see.My car is a 67 with big block it is on jack stands but should not make a diff on steering geometry.Craig it looks like your car is a small block maybe they didnt put the dent on the small block headers.

Re: Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

Thanx alot for all the replies!! Yes the dent is on the pass. side on the #8 cylinder. Now that you mention, it makes sense that it was put there for spark plug installation and uninstallation. There is also a small ding on the drivers side on the #7 cylinder pipe. The pass. side ding is on the bottom where as the driver side ding is on the side facing forward. 2x67rs/ss can you check to see if you have the driver side ding as well?? Thanx alot fellas!

Re: Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

I checked the drivers side and it looks like there is a dent in #5 down around where the bell crank would be. I wish they would have put one where the steering box is boy is it tight!

Re: Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

Guess your right...could be the difference between small block and big block. And i second the notion that i wish they would have put a small indent where the steering box is..i have about an 1/8 inch of clearence on mine.

Re: Just bought Hooker headers. Have a question?

Thanx 2x yes I made a mistake in my post saying the #7 pipe when it is actually the #5! I have unisteer rack and pinion so for me the steering box issue shouldn't be a problem although I'm sure other issues will still pop up. As well now that I have really been looking the idea that the big thumb size dent which we thought must be for spark plug clearance is actually too low. I'm thinking it must be for a different vehicle. Thanx alot for all your replies!! I'm just happy I don't have to send them back thinking they were damaged!
