Engine Decode

Block #3970010 which I figure is a 350. But on the pad behind the alternator reads V0729TK. The only TK suffix I can find relates to a 305. I just bought the car, and with all the paper work that was supplied I found a reciept and warranty from Autozone for a new shortblock but is from '98 and all it says is for a '72 350 Camaro but doesn't specifically say what size motor was bought.

Smile Re: Engine Decode

"TK" = 1978, 145hp, 305 Firebird 2-barrel. LG3 motor application.

Re: Engine Decode

Lets see 3970010 = '69-'79 302/350
TK = '78 305 or '77 350 Olds
I was assuming the '77 Olds was maybe a Delta 88 w/ 350 Chevy motor?
I just never saw a 305 w/ a 3970010 casting #

Re: Engine Decode

Can't be a 305 with an 010 block - it's a 350.

Talking Re: Engine Decode

I guess I will know for sure in a couple days when I pull the heads. Hoping to see a 4.0 bore and no dished pistons. But I'm not usually that lucky!lol
