Finally got the Holley to idle etc.
This is the first time I actually got an idle. I decided to pull the carb and change the secondary stop screw to a socket head type. I squared the primary slots then started it up. After it was warm I adjusted the idle by the secondary stop screw. It was easy after changing to the socket head. Before starting it I adjusted the timing to 10 deg btdc. After it was warm I checked with the backdial and it comes in a around 36 deg total w/o the vacuum connected. Then I did a little tweaking with the vacuum gage. Finally. Back to basics like you guys were telling me.
