What happened to Choices

Wow it has been a while since I looked at the New Camaro. I was pretty close last year to buying a 2015 1LE Camaro. I took a look recently and I can't believe all of the performance models have gone. No ZL1, No Z/28 and no 1LE. The wheel choices are really poor and it just seems that it has regressed from a sporty car to a regular coupe.
This happened to the Camaro once before, and I am hoping the GM brass is not falling into the same trap as before.
Maybe I am missing something.
I did a build and price on one the other day and it looked like a 2010 in the end.
They don't even have the 1LE style wheels that made it look at least a little like a sports car.
I hate to say it but I am seriously looking at BMW, or a NIssan NIsmo.

I have owned 3 69 Z/28s: Garnet Red 30,000 mi unrestored.
Glacier Blue, documented Canadian Z
Rallye Green purchased new in 1969
1968 Camaro Coupe L30 275 horse. ]

Re: What happened to Choices

I think what has happened is that when a new model is first introduced it usually is only offered in 2, rarely more, forms or sub-models. When the 5th gen Camaro came out in 2010 it was only offered in base and SS models. I am including the LS, 1LT and 2LT as one base model with different options available, same as the RS as an option only and not a separate model, and the 1SS and 2SS as one model. The ZL1, 1LE, and Z28 only came about in later years, and even then they were not all introduced in the same model year, but one at a time in different years.

Re: What happened to Choices

There will be high performance models of 6th gens just like the 5th gens. It will just take some time for them to be released, just like the 5th gen. There are pictures and video of a camo'd 6th gen at he NŁrburgring that have been surfacing lately online. The rumor is it will be the new ZL1. See link below. I don't hear a supercharge whine. Now now they are saying it the new1LE. I guess we'll see.

Re: What happened to Choices

Ok I guess I haven't done my homework. I just looked at the GM website. So they will be having the performance models. Other than the 2SS. The aftermarket is having a field day with the 1LE/ZL1 wheels. I will wait and see what the future brings.

Re: What happened to Choices

Considering it's a terrible idea to buy the first year a new generation of vehicle is out I'd say it's actually smart move GM didn't release any performance models to the public. This way whatever bugs are discovered for the 2016 model it wont have a negative effect on the image of the performance models.

This way they can take a year or two to sort out any problems, further develop performance models with the new chassis and when things get released it will be a more complete performance car.

Re: What happened to Choices

I have a 2016 2SS with a six speed with magnetic ride, dual mode exhaust, and the 6 piston brakes... I can't believe this isn't considered a "performance" model. The performance is amazing on this car!
