ignition switch malfunctioning

car starts and when key is released car dies.....any suggestions? dd

You're missing a hot lead or it's gone open. When you turn the key it starts because there is a secondary batt path used only when the key is turned all the way.

Look at my drawing below. Use the wiring diagram on the right side of the page. From the ignition switch, follow the 12 PNK wire to the firewall bulkhead connector through the resistance wire to the coil. That's where your break most likely is.

As a test, turn the ignition key to "ON", engine not running, and see if there is voltage at the positive terminal of the coil. Let us know what you get.

How many keys are on your keychain? I ended up buying a 68 RS 375hp car for $5500 for the same problem. the weight of all the keys(truckdriver) he had on the keychain for his car would move the switch just right and kill it.

I forgot about that possibility. Of course, that wouldn't be the case for a 69 or later. Don't what dd has.
